FOI Publications

The FOI Acts, 1997 and 2003 assert the right of members of the public to obtain access to official information to the greatest extent possible consistent with the public interest and the right to privacy of individuals. The FOI Acts are designed to allow public access to information held by public bodies which is not routinely available through other sources. Access to information under the Acts is subject to certain exemptions and involves specific procedures and time limits.

Sections 15 and 16 of the FOI Acts require that reference guides be prepared and published electronically. Information on DIT's structure and organisation, functions, powers and duties and services as required under section 15 is contained in a reference book available.

Another reference guide, as required under section 16, is intended as a practical guide to facilitate the public in understanding how DIT makes decisions under enactments and schemes it operates. It lists the policies, procedures, rules, procedures, practices and precedents used in Decision Making in the Institute.
